Yesterday, the latest group of Walk of Fame inductees was honored during a ceremony in Nashville.
Posthumously honored were Ernest Tubb, Music City legend and founder of the iconic Ernest Tubb Record Shop, and Hattie Louise 'Tootie' Bess, founder of Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. Their inclusions were accepted by Ernest Tubb Jr and Bess's grandson, Larry Weakley respectively.
Other inductees were Country Music greats Charlie Daniels, Dolly Parton and, um, Kid Rock? Though, to be fair, Rock was quick to admit his inclusion seemed out of place. He said: ""I was just as surprised at this as I’m sure a lot of you are. I heard the clash of screams and boos, and I understand. I’m not mad at anybody."
While it is not up to me to say whether he deserves his star on the Walk of Fame or not, I think anyone listing the very long list of accomplishments of the other four inductees and placing those next to someone who had a cross-over hit, will surely raise an eyebrow...
Both Dolly and Charlie Daniels were their humble selves when accepting this latest honor and Governor Bredensen had some wonderful words to say about Dolly who was really the star of the afternoon. He said: "Dolly Parton is much more than a star. If they have a walk someday in our state for people who just made things better, Dolly Parton will have a star on that walk."
I could not agree more!
